Writer accounts on Next Chapters are free. You're able to browse the works in progress and select two works to add your work. Each time you add a chapter to a novel, we'll give you access for another project, meaning you're able to continuously write if you so desire.
If you check out two full projects and decide not to pursue either of them, you'll have to pay a nominal fee to check out a third or additional project. Again, submitting a chapter to a work in progress will allow you access to one additional project.
There are several items authors can purchase to help write and finish a book, such as a proofreader or ghost writer. However, it's perfectly possible for someone to enjoy the Next Chapters platform without paying anything.
We treat any publication on our platform as any other novel. We've got some paperwork that unfortunately every author needs to fill out before their chapter is allowed to go up on the marketplace. Without these agreements, it's legally impossible for us to sell your contributions to our novels on our marketplace.
If we've received your paperwork, you will be designated as an "authorized" contributor on the Next Chapters platform. Once we're able to legally sell works contributed by authors, your submissions will be eligible to be selected as "official" novel chapters. All fully complete novels will be posted to our marketplace and eligible for purchase by the public.
Any author with an approved "official" chapter on our marketplace and who has submitted the required paperwork to Next Chapters may receive financial compensation for their contributions. Authors will receive compensation as a percentage of the profit earned on his or her particular book, proportional to the numbers of chapters written by each author.
Authors for chapters that are unapproved may still receive a percentage of the profit on books they've contributed, based on the number of sales of alternative chapters on the marketplace. Again, only authors submitting the proper paperwork will have items on the marketplace and receive payment for their work.
Simply submitting a chapter to Next Chapters does not guarantee any type of compensation to the author. Only a portion of the profits earned on official works sold in our marketplace will result in author compensation.
You retain intellectual ownership of your Chapter if you submit it to Next Chapters.
There are various ways people can use the services of Next Chapters. In general, if you're using the "free" platform, you're also agreeing to grant Next Chapters an exclusive license to market and sell your book on your behalf after it's finished. This could be on our marketplace, creating an eBook and selling it on Amazon, showing it to one of our literary agents, or anything else that comes to mind!
You may eventually get a note from Next Chapters asking for a copy of your ID and Social Security card, especially if you've worked on a novel that's ready to be published and sold!
The Internal Revenue Service requires us to report earnings paid to authors, and we are required to submit this information along with the payee's Social Security number and mailing address. Without this information, we are unable to pay authors for their approved submissions.
Additionally, as copyright law forbids underage authors from assigning copyright on their works without a parent or guardian approval, we need to verify that authors conveying copyright assignment are legally able to do so.
We do not require Social Security numbers or copies of identification to use our platform. However, without these items we are unable to sell contributed works and pay authors.
